Poem: Sri Sadasiva Brahmendra - Sage of Silence and Song

The spiritual world Sivaramakrishna did adorn,
In the seventeenth century, this mahaan was born
To Moksha Somasundara and Parvati
A Telugu Brahmin family full of piety.

In Kumbakonam, he spent his youthful days,
Drawn to Thiruvisanallur to learn the Vedic ways.
Guided by a saint, he was initiated into sanyasa,
Thus began the journey of Sri Sadasiva Brahmendra.

In Thiruvenkadu, he found his heart’s delight
The holy Sankaracharya, to throw spiritual light
Sri Paramasivendra Saraswati, pure and wise,
Kanchi Kamakoti’s seer helped precepts harmonize

For several years, under the seer’s blessed care,
Sri Brahmendra became a jnaani beyond compare.
In sacred teachings, he found his way,
The depths of Advaita, he did convey.

Now a Mouni, Sadasiva Brahmendral would stray,
Unconcerned with clothes, he’d roam each day.
Miracles flourished in his wake,
Healing and wonders, for all to partake.

Advaita’s message, so pure, so clear,
In melodies woven, for all to hear.
His works, both concise and profound,
In the hearts of listeners, forever resound.

In Pudukottai, a royal fate entwined,
With Raja Thondaiman, a seeker refined.
On sacred sand, a mantra was drawn,
Dakshinamurthy’s light before the dawn.

The king, in awe, did the sand embrace,
Now housed in his temple, a blessed place.
At Punnainallur, with divine summon,
Sri Brahmendra installed Mariamman.

At Tirunageswaram Rahu sthalam
He installed Ganesha with Yantram
In Tanjore’s Prasanna Venkateswara temple
He installed Anjaneya who blesses people.

Under his guidance to the Tanjore royalty
Came up the Saraswati Mahalaya mighty.
In ecstatic states, his mind would soar,
Towards a vision of truth, forever more.

Through pure silence, he would summon,
Kritis of the One, the great Brahman.
Sri Varahur Swami urged Sri Semmangudi —
‘Sing Brahmendral’s works in melody’.

Today, from Nerur to Manamadurai,
Tributes to Brahmendral flourish beneath the sky.
A jnaani reclusive, yet concepts profound,
In His quietude, eternal truth was found.
